West Space is a Melbourne non-profit, artist-led organisation which situates itself in “a dynamic space between an artist-run space and a contemporary art space.” With a change of director, the organisation was seeking a new visual identity, one that responds to West Space’s activities as a gallery space, a digital platform and as an artist-led contemporary arts organisation.
       The proposed identity concept arose from an exploration of the notion and meaning of ‘space’ for the organisation and is centred on two guiding principles describing West Space and its activities: ‘defining a space’ and ‘pushing the boundaries’. The identity is one that is responsive and dynamic, allowing for multiplicity, diversity and experimentation. Rejecting the static, unyielding and closed-off, the visual identity exists in a perpetually shifting state, reflecting the values and activities of West Space itself.
